In Pedro Carbo there are 20 Trici drivers who go about their daily lives without any support from the village or the Ecuadorian authorities. Furthermore, there is currently no kind of organized community or association structures for mutual support.
They work with non-motorized Tricis for the transport of goods and people and compete daily with the much more powerful combustion engine powered Tricis, which have become the majority of the cab Tricis in the community.
Due to their lower speed compared to the motorized Tricis, these Tricis drivers work with a very reduced number of passengers and transports per day and therefore have an average daily income of 4 USD, as we were told by the drivers themselves.
This project aims to construct up to 20 ecoTricis with electrically driven engines. This upgrade will allow the Tricis riders to increase their income and thus the quality of life for themselves and their families.
Ya! ecoTricis has as its main objective the social aspect and the improvement of working conditions for these 20 low-income drivers.
These are the project goals:
Social support:
Additional income for the Trici riders through the creation of an e-bike fleet;
To offer tricycle riders an upgrade alternative and at the same time a cheaper alternative to fuel-powered motorcycle tricycles;
Reduce the effort required to transport goods and people with the Trici;
Increase the speed of goods and passenger transport with the Tricis;
Development of a technical solution that is suitable for the construction of EcoTricis;
Subsidy/part-financing of the EcoTricis fleet and test phase for technology definition and analysis of the economic impact on the daily business of EcoTrici drivers;
Exchange of technical knowledge with the Ecuadorian partners to enable changes and future developments by the community of EcoTrici drivers in Pedro Carbo:
Transfer of know-how and training of EcoTrici drivers in E-Mobility
Promotion and further training of a local engineer/student to gain business opportunities;
Make Trici drivers independent of fossil fuels.
Environmental protection in Pedro Carbo:
Reducing emissions and noise in the city;
Pedro Carbo as a role model in sustainability;
Sustainable evaluation criteria for the selection of components and electric kit components.
